World fashion

For my last post on designers I am going to talk about the main time in the year when any designers making it in the fashion world will be, the fashion weeks .A fashion week is usually held in big fashion cities around the world such as Milan , Paris and New York and is made up of designers show casing their work through cat walks .Fashion Weeks are used to display the work of the designers and attract many people from all over the world.

The main fashion cities are Milan ,Paris ,New York ,London and there are a lot of other growing fashion cities such as Berlin and there are many other cities involved in fashion weeks all over the world.

Fashion week usually happens twice a year in the main cities and are held a good few months before the season so people can have a preview of what will be available in next seasons range.There are two main seasons per year Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter.

Introduction

Hi im anna and for my tranistion year module I am going to be writting a blog on the fashion and designers.

 From a young age iv always been interested in clothes and fashion.Iv always read alot of magazines and would like in the future to work in the fashion world because of this interest this is what my blog is going to be about.Im going to be talking about designers and fashion in general.

Paul Costelloe

For the last designer im going to talk about I walked to talk about an Irish designer,Paul Costelloe.Hes been working in the fashion industry for over 30 years at this stage and has many famous fans.He was born in Ireland ,Limerick and later moved to Dublin and is now based in London.He went to Blackrock College and left at the age of 16 to work in  a pig factory and then looked into book keeping before finally taking up his interest in fashion and moving to Paris.He trained in Paris and became a design assistant.

When he returned he sat up his own label Paul Cosstelloe Collections.And expanede to the UK where the headquarters are now.Hearing these stories really inspire me and encourage me to see someone who grew up in my country and develop a business in the fashion world.

Paul has opened London fashion week and played a big part in London fashion week for the last 15 years and i can see this brand expending and growing over the next couple of years.

The Costelloe brand is aimed at 'international modern women' but he has recently done mens collections aswell.His designers are quite up class formal clothes at a good price.

Coco Chanel

The third designer i want to talk about is Coco Chanel.Coco Chanel is very differnt from the other two brands iv talked about.Many people may just say this is because of the time difference but looking into her history she and her brand seem very different from the start.

She was born in 1883 in a French charity hospital .at her birth registration her name was mixed up with Chasnel and was written as Chanel.At twelve years old her mother died and her father sent her and her sisters to a convent.Having leart alot of sewing at the convent she went and worked as a semstress.She met Etienne Balsen who was very wealthy and later funded for her own shop and its safe to say the brand has grown since.

Since Chanel's death the Wertheimer family have taken over the brand Chanel.The headquarters is found in Paris another main fashion city of the world.

The original Chanel brand was famous for suits,blouses,trousers and dresses.The Chanel house is preticulary famous for 'the little black dress',the perfumeNo.5 de Chanel and the suit.

Dolce and Gabbana

The next designer/designers im going to be talking about are the founders of Dolce and Gabbana,Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.These two normally get a lot of attention in the fashion world but recently have been attracting even more attention and not a good kind of attention.Both men have been sentanced to 18-20 months in prison for tax avoidance last June.

 Besides the recent attention Dolce and Gabbana are very famous Italian designers.They met each other at a fashion house in 1980.They presented their first womens collection in 1985 and the brand has been growing ever since.

The Dolce and Gabbana label is well known for being a luxury brand.They have worked with many famous people and many celebs have been seen wearing their clothes such as Madonna, Beyonce and Whitney Houston.

They have shops all over the world but their head quarters are in Milan.

Milan is one of the fashion head capitals and has a reputation all over the world as one of the fashion capitals along with New York and London.Many other famous brands are also headquartered in Milan.Milan also hosts Milan fashion week twice each year.

So as you can see its a perfect place to build a fashion business.For now the designers may have been put to a stop but the brand will continue to grow.

Alexander McQueen

The first designer im going to talk about on my blog is the famous Alexander McQueen.When I was doing my work experience in BT2s I got to work with this brand I remember in the store room picking up one of his bags and at once wanting to own it.

                              Alexander is an English designer who was born in 1969 and left school
                              at the age of 16 to take up an apprenticeship in a tailors.And from there
                              worked his way up the fashion ladder.Hes won many major awards for

                              his work and his brand continues to grow.

    

                             If i had to sum up the brand in one word it would be edgy.The Mcqueen

                             brand has many statement pieces.Pieces that would make an outfit.Many

                             images such as dogs and skulls appear on alot of the bags and bold patterns

                             used on many of the bags and clothes.

                          

                               This is a bag from one of the newest collections.We can see the skull
                              charm added to the bag which is quite common.This bag has thick black
                              leather of high quality and studs placed all over it.

                             

                              Alexander McQueen hung himself on the 11th of Febuary 2010 but his
                             name and brand still carry on.
